At Africa Data Protection we believe in the power of the collective

Major challenges await the world, in a society where digital technology is everywhere (Artificial Intelligence, Metaverse, Internet of Things, etc.)

The African continent, with its constantly evolving population and active digital transformation, must be in the race. From 800 million in 2000, the number of Africans is expected to rise to 4.5 billion by 2100, according to United Nations projections. What's more, 60% of the African population will be under the age of 24 in 2020 (United Nations).

With more and more of African citizens having access to the internet (In 2022, 31.7% of the population had access to the internet - Statista), this represents a phenomenal opportunity for business development, but also a colossal risk if internet use goes unchecked. Indeed, more and more cyber-attacks are now taking place on the continent, jeopardising the security of data linked to governments and citizens alike. One of the main threats facing organisations in sub-Saharan Africa in 2022 is data leakage (61%), according to a report published by KnowBe4 and IDC. Yet to date, only 37 African countries have legislation in place to protect personal data.

It is therefore vital to raise awareness and educate people about cyber risks. This is why Africa Data Protection was created, to take action and protect data in Africa! Together, let's act to protect personal data in Africa.
